Relationships are like trees. Both will grow if they are given what they need. Trees are resilient when given water and sunlight, the branches bend with strength and grace to adjust to the weather patterns that come upon them. Relationships need sustenance as well. They do not flourish without constant care and nurturing. Our individual desires grow like leaves on the branches on a tree. With attention and care they can all exist together. Relationships require a kind of flexibility, a dance, to know when to bend and when to hold firm. Oftentimes, we get stuck in our rigidity, our fears, our defects in our thought patterns. Life gets busy and we forget to pause, breathe and reflect with greater perspective. Is this a glitch, dilemma or a catastrophe? Without perspective, we react to everything as if it is a catastrophe. Although we commit to growing together as a couple, oftentimes, our behavior does not reflect this. Growing together can be simple but not easy. We invite you to hit the pause button, take a breath, and reflect on thoughts in your mind about your partner and your relationship. Is there room to relax anger, rigid thoughts, painful emotions? More often than not we can take time to remember that in the scheme of life, many of the things we hold on to that feed our resentment are not that important. Take time to remember that you are branches of the same tree. You both need to work together and take each other into consideration!
