Frequently, we run into couples who say, “We had an awful fight last week and did not talk to each other for days.” When we inquire what the fight was over, each look at the other and say, “Do you remember what started it?” and ironically, neither can recall what it was about. How curious that something so painful and requiring such toxic energy is now a faded distant memory. They each remember the pain, but neither can call forth the content. We wish for all of you, that at the time you are about to go off the rails, you can hit the pause button and remember that nothing is worth that plunge into the darkness. You do not need to join every fight you are invited to.
